DHL resumes Germany-US parcel shipping

Starting 25 September, businesses in Germany will be able to use DHL Parcel International to ship goods to the US, supplementing the existing DHL Express service.

DHL Post & Parcel Germany has resumed shipments to the US and Puerto Rico for commercial customers after a four-week pause. The temporary suspension followed the introduction of new US customs regulations and the end of the de minimis exemption on 29 August. During that period, more than 30 international postal operators either halted or limited US shipments as they adjusted to the new requirements.

Under the updated framework, business customers opting for DHL Parcel International must use the ‘Postal Delivered Duty Paid’ (PDDP) service for shipments valued up to $800. This requires advance payment of all import duties for recipients and submission of complete and accurate customs documentation.

DHL highlighted that the PDDP service, previously available only for shipments to Norway, the UK, and Switzerland, has now been expanded to cover the United States. The company has also revamped its processes for data collection, customs reporting, and payment of duties to ensure compliance with the new US regulations.

Despite these changes, DHL confirmed that while customs fees now apply to most shipments (excluding private gifts under $100), business shipping costs from Germany to the US remain largely unchanged.
