DHL resumes Germany-US parcel shipments

Starting 25 September 2025, businesses in Germany can use DHL Parcel International to ship goods to the United States, supplementing the existing DHL Express service.

Temporary Pause Due to US Customs Changes

DHL Post & Parcel Germany resumed shipments to the US and Puerto Rico for commercial customers after a four-week pause. The suspension followed the introduction of new US customs regulations and the end of the de minimis exemption on 29 August. During this period, over 30 international postal operators temporarily halted or limited US shipments to adjust to the updated rules.

New PDDP Service for Business Shipments

Under the updated framework, business customers using DHL Parcel International must opt for the Postal Delivered Duty Paid (PDDP) service for shipments valued up to $800. This service requires:

  • Advance payment of all import duties for recipients
  • Submission of complete and accurate customs documentation

Expanded PDDP Coverage

Previously available only for shipments to Norway, the UK, and Switzerland, the PDDP service now covers the United States. DHL has revamped its processes for data collection, customs reporting, and duty payment to ensure compliance with the new US regulations.

Shipping Costs Remain Stable

Despite the new customs fees, DHL confirmed that business shipping costs from Germany to the US remain largely unchanged, excluding private gifts under $100.
